One person was killed in an apparent industrial accident at the GE refrigeration plant in Decatur this morning.
The incident happened after 9 a.m.
Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn said Rodney Terry, 58, of Town Creek was killed in the incident, which is still under investigation.
GE spokesperson Julie Wood said the company is “deeply saddened.”
“We are working with local law enforcement to understand the cause of this tragic accident and contacting the family of the employee to offer our assistance,” Wood said.
“Out of respect for our Decatur team, first shift has already been sent home and second and third shift production is also being cancelled. Additional employee assistance program resources are being made available to our employees in Decatur.”
GE expanded the plant in 2020 to increase production of its top-freezer refrigerators.
