Alabama football’s full 2024 schedule is out after the SEC officially released its slate of games for next season on Wednesday. It looks different, with classic matchups against teams like Ole Miss and Mississippi State not happening due to conference realignment.
But that’s not to say the schedule isn’t interesting. Alabama travels to LSU and Tennessee and the Iron Bowl against Auburn returns to Tuscaloosa.
Beyond those historical rivalries though, here are the three most interesting games on the 2024 schedule.
Sept. 14– At Wisconsin
The season starts out with two Group of 5 games against Western Kentucky and South Florida. The first game against a Power 5 team comes when the Crimson Tide ventures into Big Ten territory to face Wisconsin.
The two teams have only ever faced each other twice. The Badgers won in 1928, but the Crimson Tide earned the only victory of the modern era in the 2015 season-opener at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Wisconsin will be in the second year of Luke Fickell’s tenure as head coach. The Badgers went 7-5 in 2023, 5-4 in Big Ten play, and will close the campaign in the ReliaQuest Bowl against LSU in Tampa.
Sept. 28– Georgia
Fans of the two teams that faced off in the 2023 SEC championship game won’t have to wait long for the rematch. Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs are coming to Tuscaloosa on Sept. 28.
Before losing to the Crimson Tide in Atlanta, Georgia had won its previous 29 consecutive games. The 2023 Bulldogs fell to No. 6 in the College Football Playoff rankings after that game, and will close out the season against Florida State in the Orange Bowl.
Georgia will enter the game after opening the season against Clemson in Atlanta, then facing Tennessee Tech and Athens and traveling to Kentucky before the Alabama game.
The kickoff time and TV network for that game were also revealed. It is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. that day on ABC.
Nov. 23– At Oklahoma
The road to the 2024 schedule has been particularly arduous because the league will have two new members. Oklahoma and Texas are jumping over from the Big 12 after the 2023 season’s conclusion.
Alabama will face one of them on Nov. 23, one week before the Iron Bowl. The Crimson Tide haven’t played Oklahoma in Norman since 2002, when Dennis Franchione was UA’s head coach.
Oklahoma won that game, as it has three of the five all-time games between the schools. Alabama earned the most recent victory though, a 45-34 win in Miami in the 2018 College Football Playoff semifinal.
