In 2022, Alabama cornerback Terrion Arnold returned to his high school to present the custodian, Joe Biggs, with one of his Crimson Tide jerseys.
Arnold has another jersey now, and he wanted “Mr. Biggs” to have that one, too, so he went back to John Paul II Catholic High School in Tallahassee, Florida, with his Detroit Lions No. 0.
Arnold shared his meeting with Biggs via his social-media channels on Tuesday, as did the NFL with videos of the first gift and the second.
Arnold joined the Lions as the 24th choice in the NFL Draft on April 25. Earlier that day, Arnold had talked about Biggs with NFL Network, praising the custodian for “the life lessons that he taught me.”
“He’s a great man,” Arnold said. “His favorite phrase is: You treat me better than I deserve to be treated. And I always tell him: Man, you treat me better than I deserve to be treated. It’s an honor for me to talk about you on your behalf or me to sit up here and give you the praise that you deserve.”
Arnold is scheduled to report for his first NFL training camp on July 20 at the Lions’ training facility in Allen Park, Michigan, and is expected to contend for a spot in the starting lineup.
Detroit did not re-sign its top two cornerbacks from last season – Cameron Sutton and Jerry Jacobs.
In March, the Lions traded for former Auburn standout Carlton Davis, a six-year starter at cornerback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and signed cornerback Amik Robertson as a free agent after he started 12 games for the Las Vegas Raiders last season.
After drafting Arnold, the Lions used their second-round pick on Missouri cornerback Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
Holdover cornerbacks Kindle Vildor and Khalil Dorsey started two games apiece last season, and former Alabama standout Brian Branch is back for a second season after playing mainly slot corner for Detroit as a rookie.
