Saban‘s message for those who believe Texas will run SEC: ‘That’s not going to be a problem’

Nick Saban is like many college football enthusiasts. He is looking forward to the addition of Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC.

The ESPN analyst, however, said Monday during the broadcast there is one thing about the Texas narrative that needs to be corrected.

“What kind of tickles me is all these people ask questions about Texas always ran the conference they were in,” Saban explains. “They aren’t going to run the SEC. There are a whole lot of arrogant people in a lot of places in the SEC. You can forget all about that.

“(Texas) will be a good team and a great program, and (Texas coach Steve) Sarkisian will do a great job, but that’s not going to be a problem.”

Saban points to the former Big 12 schools adding the strength of schedule for SEC teams, but the former Alabama coach said the reverse is also true.

“They are two great programs,” Saban said. “Anytime you add two really good teams, they will be mixed throughout people’s schedule. I think the big thing for them is they are going to have play with more consistency and performance because they are going to have play a more difficult schedule. There’s going to be a premium on can they play teams week in and week out. That’s always the challenge in the SEC.”
