For people on parole, finding a job can change a life. If you can find one.

An event in Huntsville next week is set to help with that.

The Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles is partnering with Alabama Power, the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama, and J.F. Ingram State Technical College to host a mobile job fair. The job fair will happen on April 18 at the Huntsville Day Reporting Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., located at 2801 Westcorp Blvd. SW.

“This effort will assist in our collective interests to reduce state recidivism and increase Alabama’s workforce participation,” said a press release from the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles.

The job fair will be done through the Alabama Experience, or ALEX. ALEX is a mobile expo, housed inside a large trailer with digital, interactive kiosks, that travels across the state to help people find jobs and get the training required for those jobs.

According to the bureau, the event is set up with companies who need workers and can hold on-the-spot interviews. It will also have recruiters from trade programs for those interested in heavy equipment operation, forklift driving, and skid steer operation.

Some of the companies looking for employees who already signed on for the event are Amazon, Limestone Staffing, SK Staffing Solutions, and Turner Construction. The companies are interested in hiring formerly incarcerated individuals and people on parole.

There will also be opportunities for people seeking training to work with sheet metal or as millwrights and electricians.

There will be information about trades and other post-high school education opportunities, matching applicants with specific industries or places electronically.

Parole bureau Director Cam Ward, Ingram State President Annette Funderburk, and Alabama Power Vice President of Labor Relations and Workforce Development Jerry Grissom are set to speak at the job fair.
