Green Bay running back Josh Jacobs is on the doorstep of an NFL record. But Packers quarterback Jordan Love said he’s not going to let his new teammate set it.

This offseason, Jacobs left the Las Vegas Raiders after five seasons to join Green Bay in free agency.

The 2022 NFL rushing champion, the former Alabama ball-carrier comes to Green Bay with 5,545 yards and 46 touchdowns on 1,305 rushing attempts and 1,448 yards on 197 receptions.

Jacobs hasn’t reached the end zone on any of his receptions, and he joins Gerald Riggs as the only players in NFL history with at least 147 receptions and no touchdown catches.

Riggs played in the NFL from 1982 through 1991 and was a three-time Pro Bowl running back for the Atlanta Falcons. He totaled 8,188 yards and 69 touchdowns on 1,989 carries, including a league-leading 397 rushing attempts in 1985, when he piled up 1,719 yards on the ground.

But while Riggs’ 201 career receptions resulted in 1,516 yards, none went for touchdowns.

During an appearance on a Bleacher Report AMA, Love was asked if he was going to let Jacobs set the record for career receptions without a touchdown.

“No, that’s not going to happen,” Love said. “I definitely saw that the other day, and I’m surprised that he doesn’t have any touchdowns yet. Let’s see, it’s right here – 197 career receptions, zero receiving touchdowns. Actually, I sent that to him, and I said, ‘Bro, we’re going to get you a touchdown, for sure.’

“The first pass to him might be a touchdown. Who knows? We’re going to see. What’s he need? Five receptions away from it. We’ll make sure he gets a touchdown in there.”

Jacobs and Green Bay’s other veteran players are reporting for training camp on Sunday.

The Packers open their three-game preseason schedule on Aug. 10 against the Cleveland Browns and kick off their regular-season slate on Sept. 6 against the Philadelphia Eagles in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
