Alabama singer Jaycob Curlee can rest easy this week, but 12 other acts on "America's Got Talent" are facing what could be the toughest quarterfinal round yet.
Curlee competed last week in the second of four quarterfinal rounds, and prevailed despite a performance that didn't bowl over the show's four celebrity judges. "Three of the judges didn't think that it was good enough, but that just shows that America is amazing, and from here on out, I'll be singing to them," he declared, after getting the news that he'd made it through to semifinals.
The third group of quarterfinalists will perform on Tuesday, in a two-hour live broadcast starting at 8 p.m. Central time on NBC. Results will be announced in a one-hour live broadcast starting at 8 p.m. Central time on Wednesday. The competitors are child prodigy pianist Adrian Romoff; interactive multimedia performers Blue Journey; "mystifier" Mike Super; musical groups Sons of Serendip and Kieran & Finian Makepeace; singers Paul Ieti and Anna Clendening; dance team Cornell Bhangra; acrobatic/gymnastic squad AcroArmy; popping/animation team Dragon House "The Agents;" hand balancer Christian Stoinev and comedian Wendy Liebman.
The first two quarterfinal rounds featured a handful of acts that seemed unlikely to go further, either because their actual talent was questionable (as in the case of rollerblade dancer Juan Carlos) or because their performance genres seemed to appeal to a fairly narrow fan base (such as the wild west lariat work of Loop Rawlins). But the third round features a slate of performers who have given eye-popping performances or demonstrated particular personal charisma – and some have done both. Only five of the 12 will advance to semifinals.
