ArcelorMittal, one of the world’s largest steel producers, has plans for a new facility in Calvert that will produce non-grain-oriented electrical steel (NOES), said to be a crucial component of the country’s clean energy efforts. The project, subsidized by hundreds of millions of dollars in federal incentives, also could create hundreds of jobs.
“The planned facility aims to significantly reduce the U.S.’s dependency on NOES imports,” Peter LeBlanc, CMO, ArcelorMittal North America, said in a news release. “This strategic domestic production would ensure that U.S. industries aren’t susceptible to overseas supply chain disruptions. It also underlines our commitment to be the technology leader for our customers by providing the most demanding e-motors products for US and other OEMs.”
