God bless America. She’s been having way too many disturbing hair days.

Does America deserve the curse of poison politics and gun violence? I think not.

I’ve been pondering all the drama the last several days have produced. One thing I’ve noticed trending is the word “condone.”

So, let’s set things straight. I do not condone the assassination attempt on Donald Trump. An assassination of a president or presidential candidate is probably the worst thing that could happen in this hotly divided country. I do not condone the assassination attempt of any president. I do not condone the assassination attempt of any former president. I do not condone the assassination attempt of any violence-inciting former president, or a violent-rhetoric-spewing candidate for president. I do not condone violence in any form or fashion. On anybody. This gun violence/assassination stuff is serious business. It does NOT belong in America.

America doesn’t deserve this.

The assassination attempt on Trump was a horrible awakening to the toxicity that exists when poisonous politics leads to gun violence. Or is it vice versa? I don’t know what was in the mind of that young white Republican boy who took a shot at Trump and killed an innocent firefighter and injured another Trump supporter. But I do know he had easy access to an AR-15 military style weapon.

The mass shooting in Birmingham on the same weekend was over-shadowed but agonizing. There’s always too much horrible gun violence in the news. From Alabama, from across America.

Obviously, there should be no room for political violence in America. Yet, there always seems to be plenty of room for all violence in America. Unfortunately, Alabama is among the leading contributors to America’s gun violence. Top 5 in the nation. It’s sad. Tragic. That nobody seems to care.

Gun violence is the number one cause of death in Alabama children. Yet, our Alabama lawmakers, in all their wisdom, when trying to make laws that “protect” our youth, never consider guns. They would rather attack librarians, ban books and criminalize people who don’t fit their criteria as “normal.”

This great country, America, deserves better than the s#!t show we put her through. No other country in the world has this gun violence problem. But our politicians would rather offer thoughts, prayers and allegiance to their NRA sugar daddy than work for real solutions.

Wanna make America great - again? Seriously?

Let America be America. She is a great country. Let her be.

America should be at peace. Not shot to pieces.
