Kalen DeBoer brought in some serious wide receiver talent in his 2024 Alabama football recruiting class. Saraland’s Ryan Williams brought the most hype to Tuscaloosa, but the rest of the group was also solid, including four other four-star prospects.
On Wednesday at SEC Media Days, DeBoer was asked about one of them, Chattanooga, Tenn. native Amari Jefferson. The Crimson Tide’s head coach had only positive things to say about the true freshman.
“Amari just came in this summer and just extremely talented, highly touted,” DeBoer said. “Just versatile. You see with the other sports and things that we can do.”
Jefferson was initially committed to Tennessee, where he planned to play baseball. He flipped to Alabama in August.
The 6-foot, 200-pound wideout was listed by the 247Sports composite as the No. 35 player at his position in the 2024 class. DeBoer said at this point in the offseason, the Crimson Tide is mostly working on learning a new offensive system and picking up the skillsets needed to execute it.
“You can see that he’s gonna become a really good player in our program,” DeBoer said. “At that position, we’ll rotate guys in, especially if they’ve got a way that they can help us. Certain packages. I’m anxious to get to work with Amari here in the month of August and see how quickly he can pick things up and get out there and do some things for us.”
Alabama opens DeBoer’s first season as head coach on Aug. 31 against Western Kentucky.
