Ode to Birmingham’s Rickwood Field, America’s Oldest Baseball Park
Rickwood Field is the oldest baseball park in America, and was once the home field for a young Willie Mays when he performed with the Birmingham Black Barons in the Negro Leagues. Major League Baseball will honor Mays’ roots with “MLB at Rickwood Field: A Tribute to the Negro Leagues,” a National League regular season game between the San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals on June 20, 2024, at the venerable ballpark.
