The Alabama summer furnace will crank up even more today, and a multi-day stretch of above-average temperatures is in the forecast.
The National Weather Service is expecting high temperatures to peak in the mid- to upper 90s on Saturday across the state as an area of high pressure continues to dominate the weather pattern.
The humidity will be especially high closer to the coast, and a heat advisory will be in effect today for Mobile and Baldwin counties:
Expect those heat advisories to expand to more areas of the state on Sunday and into next week, with high temperatures each day expected to reach the mid- to upper 90s along with rising humidity levels.
That will make the heat index, or “feels like” temperature, go as high as 109 in some spots in south Alabama and 105 in others farther north.
More of the state is expected to get a dose of those higher humidity levels by Sunday. Here are tomorrow’s forecast air temperatures (not the heat index):
As the humidity goes up, so will Alabama’s chances for much-needed rain, and some storms as well. South Alabama will be the most likely places to see rain today and Sunday, and those higher chances for afternoon showers and storms will push farther northward on Monday and Tuesday.
The heat is forecast to back off, some, by Wednesday and Thursday, according to the weather service, with continued chances for rain and storms.
Highs are expected to peak in the low to mid-90s instead of the upper 90s for south and central Alabama on Wednesday and all of the state by Thursday.
