It's showtime for Jaycob Curlee on "America's Got Talent:" The Daphne teenager is one of 12 competitors in this week's do-or-die round of quarterfinals.
Curlee and 11 other acts will perform Tuesday night in a live broadcast from Radio City Music Hall. The two-hour show airs at 8 p.m. Central time on NBC. Online voting will begin after the broadcast. On Wednesday, Aug. 6, a live one-hour program starting at 8 p.m. will reveal which five acts move on to semifinals. For the other seven, the show will be over.
Curlee's quarterfinal bracket also includes the Hart Dance Team, which combined dance and innovative visual effects in its first appearance; Aerial Animation, a multimedia act that combines acrobatics with visual arts; male salsa duo team John & Andrew; rollerblade dancer Juan Carlos; wild west performer Loop Rawlins; magician Mat Franco; musical trio Livy, Matt & Sammy; hand balancer Andrey Moraru; 12-year-old vocalist Mara Justine; comedian Darik Santos and vocal duo Acte II.
They have the advantage of looking back at last week's broadcasts for clues as to what will succeed and what won't. For Curlee, the most significant examples likely were the performances of fellow singers Julia Goodwin and Miguel Dakota. Goodwin played it relatively safe with her performance of the Goo Goo Dolls' "Iris" and did not advance. Dakota made the grade with an energetic full-band performance of The Beatles' "Come Together," but still got a warning from the judges that he needs to wow them more with his vocals.
On Monday, Curlee and Franco joined forces in a video message for fans, urging them to turn out and vote. "'Cause if you don't vote, I go home, or he goes home. And we don't want that," Curlee says in the clip.
