A Birmingham man has been charged in the weekend shooting of his father in Shelby County.
Casey Deandre Smith, 22, is charged with attempted murder and first-degree domestic violence, sheriff’s officials announced Thursday.
The shooting happened at 4:18 p.m. Sunday at an apartment complex in the 200 block of Shoal Run Trail.
Deputies arrived to find the victim with a gunshot wound to the stomach. They rendered aid at the scene, and then he was transported by North Shelby Fire to a Birmingham hospital.
The victim underwent surgery and is listed in stable condition. He is expected to survive.
Smith was detained a short time later. He is being held without bond in the Shelby County Jail.
