Charcuterie, a French meat and cheese board, is a hit at small-scale parties and larger gatherings. Now Birmingham will be getting its own charcuterie-themed restaurant.
Board in Birmingham is the brainchild of Corinne Sweet, who has been catering for two years.
“People joke that it’s adult Lunchables, but you can have just vegetables and cheese, cheese and sweets, the options are absolutely endless. You can make it whatever you want,” she said.
The eatery, which looks to open mid-September to mid-October, is believed to be Alabama’s first charcuterie restaurant. It will be located at 5426 U.S. 280, Suite 6.
“You know how you go into Subway and get to pick out exactly what you want on your sandwich? This will be the charcuterie version,” Sweet said.
Diners will be able to select, with the help of a charcuterie artist, combinations of meats, cheeses, pickled vegetables, olives, nuts, etc. Beer and wine will be offered. There will also be take-out options.
Her catering options will also offer boards for up to 30 people, or 300 for events.
Sweet, a former food and beverage manager at Greystone Country Club, said she grew up cooking for three brothers. During her time as a stay-at-home mom, she began making charcuterie boards for friends, family, and then complete strangers.
“After a while, I began tinkering with the idea of a charcuterie restaurant, and I think Birmingham will be a prime spot for it,” she said.
