Baby rescued from near drowning at Destin beach, Florida sheriff says

A bystander and first responders revived an 11-month-old baby who nearly drowned at a Destin beach on Friday evening, the authorities said.

The baby was face down and unresponsive in the water at Norriego Point Beach Access and Park, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office. A family member and bystander pulled the child out of the water around 7 p.m., the sheriff’s office said in a release on Facebook.

Okaloosa County is in northwest Florida along the Alabama state line.

The family member and bystander performed CPR until the U.S. Coast Guard arrived. The baby and parents waited at a Coast Guard station until a helicopter arrived to transport them for further medical assistance.

“We applaud their intense efforts and send our heartfelt prayers for the baby and its family,” the sheriff’s office posted on Facebook.

The baby was breathing and responsive before being transported.
