Reading between the lines of Wednesday night's results on "America's Got Talent," was the news good or bad for Alabama's Jaycob Curlee?
Three of the six acts chosen to advance to finals were solo singers, and a fourth was a band. That suggests the teenage vocalist from Daphne faces a music-loving audience. On the other hand, it also means that the finals round already is stocked with talented singers, including Miguel Dakota, a young man from Colorado who's probably the competitor most likely to vie for the same votes as Curlee.
Aside from Dakota, Wednesday night's winners included 12-year-old Mara Justine and torch singer Emily West. Sons of Serendip, a musical group that blends classical and pop elements, also passed through to the finals, but singing soldier Paul Ieti, who had a weak performance on Tuesday, fell by the wayside.
Comedian Dan Naturman was among the losers on a night when dance and variety acts also didn't fare well. The Bad Boys of Ballet failed to get enough votes from viewers, as did the Flight Crew jump rope team. Hand balancer Andrey Moraru, who'd seemed to wow the judges and the larger audience on Tuesday, also saw his run come to an end.
Two magic acts rounded out the winners: Voters picked Mike Super to proceed, and the show finished with the judges picking David & Leeman over dance-based act Aerial Animation.
Curlee has less than a week to ponder the meaning of it all. On Tuesday, he and the 11 other remaining semifinalists will perform live, each making their case to advance to the finals.
