Alabama softball coach Patrick Murphy offered a little news dump during the Fourth of July holiday on Thursday, announcing that the Oklahoma Sooners will be visiting Alabama’s Rhoads Stadium for the first time in regular season history in 2025.
“Here’s a little holiday scoop for all the softball fans on X,” Murphy wrote in a post to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “OU will visit the Rhoads (house) for the first time in the (regular) season April 11-13.”
The Sooners previously traveled to Tuscaloosa during the 2015 postseason, which saw the Crimson Tide win the three-game series 2-1.
Thursday’s announcement comes just days after Oklahoma officially joined the SEC alongside Texas on Monday.
The addition of Texas and Oklahoma significantly deepens the SEC’s field of softball teams as the Longhorns and the Sooners played each other in this year’s Women’s College World Series final with Oklahoma clinching its fourth-consecutive national title after winning two games in the three-game championship series.
Despite Oklahoma’s recent dominance, Alabama holds the advantage in the two programs’ series history with a 10-8 record. The Crimson Tide and the Sooners are an even 5-5 across the last 10 matchups.
