Paul Prine, the former chief of the Mobile Police Department, speaks to reporters after the Mobile City Council voted unanimously on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, to terminate him as the city's police chief.John Sharp

Council members leading an effort to identify the scope of an investigation - and which law firm should lead it – into allegations raised by the city’s former police chief on a host of alleged improprieties within Mayor Sandy Stimpson’s administration are hoping it can be done for under $100,000.

That dollar amount will loom over a decision the council is expected to make within the next two weeks. The price-tag will also come after the mayor’s office confirmed the costs of a third-party review of the police department’s policies and procedures during use of force incidences cost taxpayers $297,791.
