Alabama landed a 5-star football recruit for the second straight day on Sunday, this one offensive lineman Ty Haywood of Ryan High School in Denton, Texas.
Haywood (6-foot-5, 285 pounds) is the Crimson Tide’s 22nd verbal commitment for 2025 and its fifth composite 5-star prospect in head coach Kalen DeBoer’s first full recruiting class. Wide receiver Caleb Cunningham of Ackerman, Miss., committed to Alabama on Saturday.
Haywood announced his commitment via social media:
Haywood — rated the No. 11 overall player in the country and No. 2 offensive tackle according to 247 Sports’ composite rankings — also has scholarship offers from LSU, Miami and Michigan, among several other schools. He is also a standout shotput and discus thrower in high school.
“Simultaneously stout and long-armed, casting an imposing figure on the field while possessing more frame potential,” 247 Sports recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks writes of Haywood. “Significantly longer than tall with great arm and wingspan numbers. Got better and better as junior season progressed, particularly in at-the-snap suddenness and explosion. High-level mover for the tackle position with quick feet, quick hands, and anchoring ability as well. Active feet when engaged fuel drive-blocking and block-finishing abilities.”
Haywood is the second 5-star recruit from the state of Texas to commit to Alabama in this cycle, along with Duncanville quarterback Keelon Russell. California cornerback Dijon Lee and Georgia linebacker Darrell “Duke” Johnson are also composite 5-star recruits among the Crimson Tide’s 2025 pledges.
Alabama now has five offensive linemen in its 2025 class, with Haywood joining 4-star guard/center Michael Carroll of Doylestown, Pa., four-star tackles Jackson Lloyd of Carmel, Calif., and Micah DeBose of Vigor and 3-star tackle Mal Waldrep of Central Phenix City. The Crimson Tide’s overall class is ranked No. 2 nationally behind only Ohio State, according to 247 Sports composite.
